Canadian Solar subsidiary completes 60 MW California project

The new PPA will run for 15 years and supply the program with 100 MW of Power. This will be generated at Recurrent’s Tranquility 8 Solar Project, which is set to begin construction next year and to start providing power in late 2018.
The Barren Ridge project, also known as the RE Cinco project, supplies power to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) under an existing long term PPA. Construction on the project began in fall 2015, creating 230 jobs. Recurrent also built two miles of transmission lines, to connect the project to an LADWP switching station.
“We are proud to work with LADWP to bring solar power to California,” said Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar “This is Recurrent’s third project to reach commercial operation this year, this would not have been possible without the collaboration and hard work of our partners.”
LADWP is the USA’s largest municipal utility, and last year was among the top 10 utilities for number of solar megawatts connected. MCE is a nonprofit community electricity provider, which gives customers the option of having 50% to 100% of their electricity supplied from solar and other renewable sources. “We are proud to be working with Recurrent Energy to grow California’s solar industry,” said MCE chief executive Dawn Weisz.
“This contract marks the third and largest PPA between Recurrent and MCE,” added Qu, echoing the pride in the project. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to continue delivering reliable, cost competitive solar to MCE and their customers.”
