Rooftop solar will go away under NEM 3.0 just like rooftop hot water solar went away in the late 1970s when the government rebates disappeared. Re-wiring a home to have both utility powered outlets and appliances and a second rooftop solar system secondary outlets will compensate for the drop in Net Metering compensation. With solar installation costs hovering a 10 cents per kilowatt hour produced prorated over the lifetime of the solar panels and the utility compensation at only 8 cents per kilowatt hour, and batteries increasing the cost to 18 cents per kilo watt hour prorated over the battery’s lifetime, the only winners are the greedy utilities taking the excess energy at 8 cents per kilo watt hour. East bay Community Energy charges 13 to 15 cents for the actual kilo watt hour of electricity, they sell, and that is less than the PG&E rate charged customers.
