Hannon Armstrong jumps into community solar, SRP gives emissions the boot: pvMB 6/6/19

Hannon Armstrong gets into community solar – Hannon Armstrong and Summit Ridge Energy have announced that they will jointly invest in community solar projects across several states, Maryland chiefly among them. SRP carbon reduction commitments – Salt River Project has officially put into motion newly-approved carbon reduction efforts, which call for the utility to reduce carbon emissions from electricity generation, from current levels of about 1,100 pounds per megawatt-hour to 550 pounds per megawatt hour, by 2035. These reductions are projected to cut emissions 43 percent below 2005 levels, with further cuts to come by 2050. Source: Western Resource Advocates

Sunpower system installed at “destination” Porsche dealership – “After a review of several companies and products, the indiGO Auto Group selected Renova Energy to install a SunPower Helix Dual Tilt solar system on their new two-story, 44,500 sq. ft. Porsche dealership… The rooftop solar system made of 576 SunPower 360-watt panels will serve as an important demonstration of Porsche’s prototype for future locations. Porsche Palm Springs is located on a 2.7 acre lot on Highway 111 at 3737 East Palm Canyon Drive. The LEED-certified building is thoughtfully designed to retail and service the new Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle scheduled to be released in 2020.” Source: Renova Energy

PacificCorp to install 650 kW + 1 MW/ 5MWh instead of wires – Rocky Mountain Power has selected Black & Veatch to construct a battery energy storage project that will supply sustainable electricity to the residents of Panguitch, Utah. The project will consist of a 650-kilowatt array of solar panels, mounted on a single-axis tracking system, sending the energy to a 1 MW, 5 MWh energy storage system. “The energy storage system will be designed to react to peak consumption demands and level out demands on the local grid, enabling PacifiCorp to employ batteries instead of upgrading traditional grid poles-and-wires infrastructure.” Source: Pacificorp

Gina Raimondo appoints former Nat Grid lawyer to run DPU – “Gov. Gina Raimondo is nominating energy lawyer Laura S. Olton, a former general counsel of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and National Grid in Rhode Island, to chair the state Public Utilities Commission. Olton will replace Margaret “Meg” Curran, whom former Gov. Lincoln Chafee appointed chairwoman of the three-member commission in 2013. Curran’s six-year term expired in February. Olton currently runs LSO Energy Advisors in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she gives energy counsel to the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Beverly Hospital, the Merrimac Municipal Light Department and PowerOptions, a nonprofit energy-buying consortium with clients in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. She also chairs the Town of Wellesley Sustainable Energy Committee.” Source: Providence Journal
